So you’ve got your photo session booked (yay!) & now you're wondering ... "um, what are we going to wear for this?" I hear this all the time - YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I've been in your shoes, I've shared the same stressful feelings, did the last minute shopping spree - and that's why I created my client styling guide! All of my sessions include individualized outfit styling and coordination boards - items specifically selected for their session. Below I'm sharing some of my most useful tips and tricks for you to use in planning your next session!

Choose Complementing Colors & Accessories | Multiple colors adds dimension to your photos, but it's important that they look good together.

Add Layers of Patterns or Textures | Simple ways to add dimension to your photos is by having a coordinating patterned piece or layers of neutral textures. Rule of thumb: 1 pattern for every 2 solids.

Plan for the Season & the Location | Though it's tempting to wear certain clothes to achieve a desired look, if you're hot or cold during your session, it is less likely that you'll appear happy & relaxed in your photos.

Be Your Best | Remember your clothes should reflect you & your family! Choose items that make you feel your best & are true to your style - it will be noticeable if you wear something uncomfortable or out of the ordinary.

Thing to Avoid:

  • Don't be Matchy Matchy - Too much of the same color will cause you to blend into each other. If you lean towards navy, add in light blue, layers of neutrals & white patterns.
  • Stay Away From Baggy Clothing - Although comfy, baggy clothing doesn't photograph well. ALWAYS wear something that is shape defining - think flexible fabric or flowy dress with a belted waist.
  • Just Say No to Neon - These don't photograph well & cast colors onto your skin that are unflattering.

If you're not sure where to begin, start with one piece of clothing you love & then plan around it. I encourage you to shop your closet first, but I'm always supportive of providing a reason for retail therapy! Check out the photos below for some inspo! Don't forget - the best accessory is a smile :) Cheers, friends!
